If you are working in a Navigator preview window, Web Factory displays the frame layout you selected. You can alter the design, if desired (see Related Topics, below). You then need to assign a Web page to be displayed in each frame. Do this by clicking inside the frame and selecting to insert "A link to another Web page". Web Factory displays the Link to another Web Page box, allowing you to select the page that will appear in this frame. After you click OK, the URL of the page you selected appears in the frame. The assigned Web pages will not display in this window. You must view the frame page in the Test View to see the results.
If you are working in an Internet Explorer preview window, the frame layout will not appear, since Internet Explorer version 2.x does not support frames. Any text or images you insert into this preview window will appear in lieu of frames when the document is viewed in Internet Explorer or other browsers that do not support frames.
After you have selected the size and background color of the new image and clicked OK, an empty window of the selected size and background color appears on the screen, and all of the image-editing menus and tools become available. You can now draw on the new image, load objects into the new image window, or cut and paste parts of another image into the window.
File Format | Description |
---|---|
*.htm, *.html | Plain text files saved to these file formats are considered "Web pages". They can be viewed in any Web browser and edited in Web Factory. Files of these types will open into a preview window, displaying the Web page as it will appear in either Netscape Navigator or Microsoft's Internet Explorer. |
*.bmp, *.pcd, *.pcx, *.tga, *.tiff, *.wmf | Images in any of these file formats can be opened in Web Factory for editing and for converting to file formats accepted by Web browsers. Files of these types will open into Web Factory's image editor. |
*.gif, *.jpg | Images in either of these file formats are accepted by image-capable Web browsers, and can be edited in Web Factory. Web Factory also accepts variations of these file types, including transparent and interlaced gifs. Files of these types will open into Web Factory's image editor. |
File Format | Description |
---|---|
*.htm, *.html | Plain text files saved to these file formats are considered "Web pages". They can be viewed in any Web browser and edited and saved in Web Factory. |
*.bmp, *.eps, *.pcx, *.tga, *.tiff | Web Factory allows you to edit and save image files to any of these formats. However, Web browsers do not support these file formats. |
*.gif, interlaced *.gif, *.jpg | Image files in these formats are accepted by most image-capable Web browsers. Web Factory allows you to save image files to these formats. The *.jpg format allows you to select the level at which to compress the file. This reduces the file size (number of kilobytes), but can also reduce quality. Interlaced .gif files load more gradually on the Web page than standard gif files, increasing the level of detail with each pass. |
The following preferences are available when the current file is in a preview window. They are not available when previewing frames in Navigator.
Preference | Description |
---|---|
Cursor color if a background image is used | When an image is tiled across the Web page background, the effect can be beautiful, but it can be difficult to see the standard black text cursor. Web Factory allows you to choose the color of the cursor to improve its visibility. This setting is applied during the current work session only. |
Default Preview Browser | As you work in Web Factory, you preview your Web page as it will look in the Netscape Navigator browser or Microsoft Internet Explorer browser. In this preference, you can choose which browser preview your files will automatically open into. It also allows you to let Web Factory decide which browser preview is best for each file, based on any browser-specific tags (that is, tags supported by only one browser or the other) it finds when validating your files upon opening. |
On inserting HTML elements | A number of HTML elements (such as lists, horizontal rules, and more) provide options for customizing their look. In this preference, you can choose whether you want Web Factory to display the Properties box for these elements each time you insert them, so you can customize their look; or whether you want Web Factory to automatically insert the element using the default settings. (If you choose to insert with default settings, you can always edit the Properties later by right-clicking on the element and selecting properties from the pop up menu, or by selecting the element and choosing Properties from the Edit menu.) |
Validate files on opening | This option tells Web Factory to automatically validate the HTML of any *.htm or *.html file when it is opened in Web Factory. Web Factory will inform you if any errors or unrecognized tags are found. For more information on this process, see Edit menu, Validate HTML. |
